Mirror Wall Update

Thanks to your awesome suggestions, I decided to go with the window-facing floating wall for my gallery wall-o-mirrors.  Buuuut now I'm even more indecisive about the layout!  I've been tinkering in Photoshop trying to figure out placement.  To make my life easier and better visualize the final product, I photographed the mirrors on a white backdrop, erased the background, and now have little mirrors to toss around and figure out where the heck they should go.  P thinks I should incorporate frames in with the mirrors and has begged me to behave.  Me.  Behave.  Bahahaha! Never! =)

If the mirrors were actually just a TEENY bit bigger I could have done something like this:

But they're way smaller.  So maybe something like this?

Who knows!  I think I need a few more hours staring at this:

Any ideas?

Hey! Love your mirrors, bigtime. Going to share my gut opinion honestly. . . Hope you know me well enough for me to do that :)  I personally would prefer it with fewer mirrors, so there is more "white space" - I feel like the middle photo shows the wall a bit too cluttered.  But I may be biased as I like the biggest three mirrors the best, and feel like they don't need the square ones competing for attention.  Of course, I have half-empty walls in my house. So I may be odd!

i actually think paul is right! i think if you found mirrored frames and hung them that would be really cute! home goods?

Wow I need Photoshop. What version do you use?

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons said...

The 2004/2006 version I had a friend bootleg for me back in college =) hehe! You can download a free newer version via the download site bittorrent if you're like me and cant afford to shell out the $$ for it =)
MWAH!

Its times like these that I want to cry over homegoods being 2 hours away! Our TJ Maxx is decent but nowhere as amazing as HG. Thinking it's road trip time! =) Thanks chica!

oh no - I LOVE that you give your honest opinion all day every day. I love you for it =) I like to keep negative space in mind too when putting things on the wall, but part of me really wants one clutter-f**k of a wall too.. just one. just to see how it looks. lol! Paul hates BOTH arrangements so I am going to do it when he leaves. take that hubby!

I'm not loving the squares..  I think it takes away from the more cohesive look without them.  Perhaps if you found something that was a different shape?  I like the 5, maybe one more smallish in the gold tone.

I don't own any square ones yet so *phew!* My husband despises the idea as well so It will probably get vetoed out =) Thanks for helping Julie!!!! xo

I don't know why I can't reply with my blog... anyway, if you know a teacher they get great discounts on software!

I like the second one better.  Since your wall is going to be a gallery wall that can be dedicated to your project, then I say fill it up!!  But you also have to take into account if you will ever decide to change the wall and use it for something else.  Like once you have children using it as a photo gallery, you will want to make sure that the places marked to hang can be used again - does that make sense??

i agree that you should get more mirrors or add in other frames or art. :)

I like them all but not together. Ugh, I know that doesn't help. I like the three with the dark frames on them. I'd do them in a line down, small-big-small. Or I'd put the big one in the top third of that wall, go get two big black frames and put the smaller mirrors inside an empty frame below the big one. Then you are framing the mirrors which would be cute. I tend to be more matchy so feel free to tell me to go to hell. Lol!

Love your mirrors! I actually have one of those...the one with a black border that is "square-like".  So cute! Love how you have them all planned out. I'm doing the same planning thing with a grouping of canvas wall art I'm trying to make (found on Pinterest as well). Good luck! ( :

I love the mirror idea...and that you're being so strategic about it. And I'll surely tell you how wonderful it looks when you're done!  But...I'll be no help with suggestions because I am not good at those things :)

Haha you are so awesome. I would do the EXACT same thing.

I am in love with your mirrors!! They look lovely together.  I think the 4 mirrors look the best, to me all of them look a bit much for that wall. But the size of the wall and the mirrors could look totally different in person, so maybe all of them fit perfect. It's going to look fabulous!!

So.... My two cents- either go big or go home. To get the look you want it shoukd be much less space between them, less wall visible and many more mirrors. Mix of mirrors and empty frames is odd- either all mirrors or all frames. Also, fewer variables- all black frames in different organic rounded shapes/sizes, or all graphic like square shapes (square/rectangle/etc) mix of organic shapes and geo is visually odd. Even if you decide to do fewer than a full wall, a tighter cluster with less wall space between will be more of an impact. Dont pay retail for new anything- ebay sells "lots" for stupid cheap. (although im a fashion designer i look at graphics and prints frequently so this is a quasi professional opinion... Feel free to ignore it ;)

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons said...

Ooh thank you so much for your help! =) The black frames are fake... I just made them in photoshop to fill in the space to see what It might look like if I used square mirrors or frames. I also never thought to check ebay lots! Brilliant! Thank you! =)

Ohh such an awesome idea!  I like the idea of all the funky shaped mirrors with a few smaller, identical square ones mixed in.  Can't wait to see how it turns out!

I had the design bug today, as well. I love it so much, 3 hours later and I had no idea where the time went. It's so addictive to make your home looke beautiful. I also think that incorporating frames will be great.

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons said...

hehe I don't actually own the black frames. I made them in photoshop! But now I want to go shopping and buy 10000 frames for an all frame wall and maybe use the mirrors for something else? soooo indecisive! Thanks for the input dahhhling! =) xoxo

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons said...

Good point! Its also the FIRST thing you see when you walk into the house. which means I have to be careful or it will be a total eyesore! eek!

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons said...

no worries. they don't exist! =) made them in photoshop so I dont have to worry about them. Hubs hated the idea of them too. lol
