[DIY] Herringbone Fashion Inspiration Board

I'm going to go ahead and go out on a limb here. Herringbone is the next chevron.  At least for this girl it is! =)  I've been a tad obsessed with the pattern for several months and Housebella's streamlined wall-o-herringbone sent me over the edge.  I needed this pattern in my house.  In Tiffany box blue.  Stat.

Phew! That was easy!
No really! It totally was.  I'll prove it to you =)

The bonus? I had everything on hand!
My days of finding torn magazine scraps all over the house are in the past! <3

Supplies Needed
1.  an old framed bulletin board [I stole Paul's]
2.  blue painter's tape [won in a giveaway! score!]
3.  50-cent acrylic craft paint [white]
4.  Krylon spray paint [blue ocean breeze]
5.  a paintbrush [you'd laugh if you saw my collection]

optional extra: krylon clear protective gloss finish
disclaimer: still using free krylon paints from my last DIY project.  Man that stuff lasts!
check out their Projects in a Can page for more fun projects.

Step One
Set up your work space.  Refrain from laughing at my ghetto-fab backyard =)

Step Two
Paint the entire board white.  Super easy!  Allow to dry overnight before moving to the next step.

Step Three
Tape off your pattern.  For a Herringbone How-To visit Sara at Housebella

Step Four
Using a several light coats, spray paint the entire board with blue ocean breeze.  Allow to dry outside.

Step Five
Remove the tape a few hours later, once the paint has fully dried. "ooOoOOH!" at your results.

Step Six (Optional)
Seal your fantabulous new bulletin board with a clear protective finish for added durability.

All that's left is to decorate your board! <3

It's like Pinterest for my closet! =)
Inspiration boards have been around forever, and for good reason!
There isn't a little fashionista fairy in my closet waiting to help me with all my outfit decisions,
so this is the next best thing!  Can't wait to fill it! =)

Fun Tip:
Mismatched or dated earrings & old brooches + pins make chic little thumb tacks & add a little bit of charm to a bulletin board.  You can spruce them up with paint, fabric, wallpaper, modpodge... anything really! <3 Life's too short.  Never settle for plain cork =)  Especially when you can WIN a case of Krylon paints to snazz up your decor!  Stay tuned for a chance to win!

So what about you?  Do you use a cork board?  Dry Erase?  Chalkboard?

PS: If you came here hoping for a foodie [Peas] post then scroll down to What I Ate Wednesday and get your inspiration on! <3 They're MARVELOUS this week!!!

I just found a giant board like this at Goodwill the other day. Almost bought it but didn't. Now I wish I would have. Great idea!! I did something similar here with a vintage window left over from our wedding decor. Check it out. http://www.jesseandlauren.com/2011/10/wild-about-windows.html (sorry if I plugged my blog on your blog. Is that ok?)

Oh and I have been reading your blog for a while and have never left a comment until today. Thanks for all the fun inspiration.

What a great idea and so pretty! The really good idea is using mis-matched earrings! I never know what to do with them!

This is quite fabulous. I wish I had your talent. You make it looks SO EASY, but with my inability to function as a normal human being, I'm afraid I would just make a mess of it. Lol.

I'm glad to see you're back! I've missed you too. I thought maybe you just didn't like me anymore and that made me sad!

Oh my goodness that is the cutest push pin board and to think it was done for free?  With spray paint and painters tape?  I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  Seriously.  Absolutely smitten.  Job well done my friend!  {and great color as always!}  xoxo! Jen

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons said...

Thanks doll! =) I looooove how it came out... which.... I half expected it to look like a big blue blob when it was done. Haha!

OoH! I added a few random kitchen updates BUT the major one I want to do is going to have to wait until I can con someone around here into letting me borrow their Costco membership to get the containers I need! Deployment just started for us so I basically need these projects for sanity at this point ;) P is going to come home and not recognize the place! <3
